For newborns I ask that they be kept awake as much as possible before the session. Please feed baby right before you arrive for your session to get them in that relaxed sleepy mood. Once you arrive, you will be able to feed them again (top off) so they are nice and full, content and in that sleepy stage so we can get those adorable sleepy poses.
If we are doing a newborn session with older siblings, be sure the siblings are well rested and calm. A quiet environment will provide a much better setting for the session. We will do the sibling/baby shots first. Then perhaps have a family member take the siblings out of studio to let us concentrate on baby. A newborn session can be quite long and the siblings will get tired and restless quickly. All newborn/baby sessions are centered around the baby. We will stop as often as needed for diaper changes, feedings or whatever their needs are. It is all about the comfort and contentment of the baby and mother.
For older babies, all ages are adorable and fun to capture, but some of my recommendations are at about 4 months old when they are beginning to hold their head up while laying on tummy or when they are beginning to find their feet. Next, I would recommend 6 – 9 months or when they are able to sit up for the most part but not yet crawling or pulling up. Then I would recommend when they are pulling up and standing while holding on to something but not yet walking. Then, for sure, when they turn ONE!! Cake smash sessions are awesome!! All of these are adorable stages in your baby’s life that you will definitely want to capture and preserve!
