Newborns & Babies

We specialize in Newborns and Babies and we LOVE capturing these precious moments for you. If you desire a newborn session, let us know as soon as possible so we can plan accordingly. The ideal time to book your newborn session is when we do your maternity session! Give me your due date and we can schedule something tentative. Then once your little one arrives, let me know as soon as possible so I can reserve a date for you. Newborn needs to be photographed at between 5 – 10 days old to capture those darling curled up, squishy poses that we all love. After that time frame, I cannot guarantee those same newborn poses but am still able to capture your baby beautifully. I do ask parents to please bring a pacifier (even if baby isn’t using one) just in case we need it temporarily for soothing baby while positioning. For newborns, I prefer you dress them in diaper only, wrapped loosely in a blanket as this helps to eliminate clothing marks on baby right before their session. Newborns and babies are best photographed in nothing. I go to great lengths to provide a huge selection of wraps, outfits, hats, bonnets, and other accessories for you to choose from. I spare no expense on the many backdrops and props available to you for your session. As mentioned before, we will discuss in our initial consultation the look you may want, which props you like, what your color scheme is, etc. so that we have everything set up and ready to go for your session. Parents do not need to worry about bringing anything (clothing and props for baby) but if you have a particular item that has very special meaning to you (a favorite stuffed animal or a special family heirloom), please let me know and I will be happy to incorporate them into your session to create those lasting memories.

For newborns I ask that they be kept awake as much as possible before the session. Please feed baby right before you arrive for your session to get them in that relaxed sleepy mood. Once you arrive, you will be able to feed them again (top off) so they are nice and full, content and in that sleepy stage so we can get those adorable sleepy poses.

If we are doing a newborn session with older siblings, be sure the siblings are well rested and calm. A quiet environment will provide a much better setting for the session. We will do the sibling/baby shots first. Then perhaps have a family member take the siblings out of studio to let us concentrate on baby. A newborn session can be quite long and the siblings will get tired and restless quickly. All newborn/baby sessions are centered around the baby. We will stop as often as needed for diaper changes, feedings or whatever their needs are. It is all about the comfort and contentment of the baby and mother.

For older babies, all ages are adorable and fun to capture, but some of my recommendations are at about 4 months old when they are beginning to hold their head up while laying on tummy or when they are beginning to find their feet. Next, I would recommend 6 – 9 months or when they are able to sit up for the most part but not yet crawling or pulling up. Then I would recommend when they are pulling up and standing while holding on to something but not yet walking. Then, for sure, when they turn ONE!! Cake smash sessions are awesome!! All of these are adorable stages in your baby’s life that you will definitely want to capture and preserve!
